Fortress Shuttle Ehrenbreitstein
Bundesgartenschau 2011, Koblenz, Germany
The latest generation of people movers:
The new “Fortress Shuttle” provides a permanent and convenient connection between the fortress and the youth hostel with the Ehrenbreitstein district, making it a sustainable infrastructure measure that serves in particular the tourism in the city. The investment costs are well invested: Because of the gradient of the rock path, it wasn’t that easy to get up to the fortress. The chairlift was also unsuitable, particularly for persons with reduced mobility and for carrying luggage.
The new inclined lift, which enables comfortable transport even in bad weather situations, is useable barrier-free for individual travellers and groups – all year round, even on Sundays and public holidays, from 6:00 a.m. to 01:00 a.m. Because the inclined elevator can be requested and operated by the passengers themselves, it offers them an uncomplicated and convenient way of “conquering” the historic fortress walls.
Fully automatic level control always keeps the cabin level when the inclination changes on the track. The glazed cabin offers space for 25 people and an awesome view.
