Inclined Elevator Dombergbahn
Archdiocese of Munich and Freising / Germany
People-Mover of the latest iCab® generation:
Until now, the upper level of the Domberg was accessible via steep, non-barrier-free paths as well as motorised private transport. The barrier-free ascent from the lower city level to the buildings on the higher Domberg is therefore an important component of the overall concept for the future use of the Domberg plateau. This has now been achieved through the construction of the inclined elevator.
The complex follows the path to the Cathedral Hill, which can already be seen in the oldest view of Freising from 1482 as a vision of Jan Polack, master of late Gothic. Where the customs house at Münchner Tor used to be, there is now a concrete building with access to the elevator.
The archdiocese has spared no expense or effort to harmoniously integrate the buildings into the surroundings. To this end, the design of the landing structures and design cabin was adapted to the existing structures, the track and recovery stairs were specially coated and the greatest possible emphasis was placed on the protection of trees worthy of preservation by means of appropriate support distances. The operation of the system is being taken over by Stadtwerke Freising.
The inclined elevator with stops, hoistway and elevator technology leads from the bottom stop at city level, designed in red-colored, bush-hammered concrete with lateral entrance, to the Domberg stop, which was designed with a front door in a portal frame. Under the parallel maintenance and recovery stairs, district heating and fire-fighting water risers are routed outside the root zone of trees worthy of protection and invisible from the outside.
