Schlossbergbahn Freiburg
Schlossbergseilbahn, Schwarzwald / Germany
The old Schlossberg cable car was in operation for 40 years before it was caught up with the inevitable old age. For years, it had taken tourists and locals to Freiburg’s local mountain. Today a modern “people mover” takes the guests up to the Schlossberg restaurant Dattler. Now only one of the old cabins in front of the Schlossberg restaurant reminds us of the golden age of the small cable car.
Economic considerations forced this decision: Above all, the high personnel and operating costs made the cable car unacceptable for economical operation. The new inclined lift runs fully automatically – without any operating personnel. In contrast to the old cable car, wheelchair users, families with prams and the elderly people can now also comfortably reach the Schlossberg.
The inclined lift runs all year long, summer and winter. The first ride starts at 9 am, the last at 10 pm or later – depending on the restaurant operation – so that the guests have the possibility to go down by the new people mover.
